Family reunification is one of the main objectives of the Immigration Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Canadian citizens and Permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents through this program.
All the interested sponsors are first required to submit Interest to Sponsor form online and then selected candidates are invited to apply within 60 days of invitation to submit a complete application and the required documents.
IRCC aims to accept 20,000 complete applications through PGP in 2019.
To be eligible to apply under this program, the sponsor in Canada must meet the following requirements:
- The sponsor must be 18 years of age or older
- The sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
- The sponsor must not be ineligible
- The sponsor must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) level for past 3 years
- The sponsor must sign an undertaking to provide the necessary support to parents and grandparents for a period of 20 years.
