Express Entry is an online electronic selection system implemented by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to accelerate the permanent residency applications for various Economic Immigration Programs. With an introduction of this system, IRCC is now able to process applications with quicker processing times, around 4 – 6 months.
Express Entry allows IRCC to select applicants from Express Entry Pool under the following economic programs:
Federal Skilled Worker
Federal Skilled Trades
Canadian Experience Class
EE – Linked Provincial Nominee Programs
To be eligible to apply under Express Entry, you must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for one of the above mentioned 4 programs. This whole process consists of the following steps:
STEP 1 – Expression of Interest
Once you meet requirements of one of the programs, the first step is to create an Express Entry profile enlisting all your information including Age, Work Experience, Education, Skills, Language ability test scores, a Job offer.
You are assigned a CRS Score as per the Comprehensive Ranking System, and your profile is placed in the pool with all other candidates from all around the world.
STEP 2 – Invitation to Apply
Periodically, as per Ministerial Instructions, the highest ranked candidates in the pool are invited to apply for Permanent Residence. All the selected candidates receive Invitation to Apply (ITA) and they get 60 days to submit their application with all required documents.
STEP 3 – Submitting e-APR
All documents are required to be submitted online along with the application, otherwise, the application is refused to be incomplete. Each candidate gets 60 days to submit all his documents including, Reference letters, Medical exam results, Police Clearance Certificates, Education and Language results, any civil documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, Passport, Digital photo, and others.
STEP 4 – Receive COPR and PRV
Once your application is assessed successfully, you receive Confirmation of Permanent Residence and Permanent Resident Visa to land in Canada.

- Draft Reference letter for all the eligible work experiences you have.
- Instructions to obtain Medical Exam Results and Police Clearance Certificates.
- Advise you on Proof of funds.
- Draft Submission letter
- Submit e-APR after completing all the online forms.
- Communicate with IRCC officers if they need anything during the processing of your application.
- Provide instructions on landing procedure, Permanent residency obligations and Citizenship requirements.
